We had a busy December and it went by super fast. It started out with a roar, the infamous "Ice Storm" that left us losing power for a day or so. We were very fortunate to get our power back so quickly, so thank you NYSEG for all of your hard work and quick recovery. http://www.nyseg.com/ Gabby and I made the best of it by sleeping in the kitchen and baking anything we could. We got in touch with family that we could to make sure everyone was ok, only to find none of us had power so there was no taking refuge together. We had to go it alone. It was a long weekend, Gabby and I and the cat spent it huddled together and playing. Todd worked alot and when he wasn't working, he was helping a neighbor. I have no fears of another power outage, but Gabby, everytime it snows or ices, she asks if we're going to lose power. It was a memorable experience for sure!
We said good bye to Todds car.....We'd only had it for a year but she gave us a good run. We'd taken it to the tip of Vermont a time or two, taken it on a few trips actually and it never gave us one bit of trouble. It still ran beautifully when it went away on the flat bed but the part of the frame that holds the engine in had broken and was no longer safe for us to use as a family vehicle so we called my dad and away it went. Good bye girl, you were a good car and your engine will probably keep running in some other shell.
Todds family came and stayed for a few days after Christmas. Todd, Gabby, our nieces Shannon and Courtney and I went sledding down the hill in the yard one night and we had a great time. The girls are both teenagers and it kills me, since Shannon was just a baby and Courtney just a toddler last time I looked and now they are taller than me and growing more beautiful by the minute. Dodi and Scott (Todds brother and sister in law) seem as frozen in time as Todd and I are and we barely notice each other getting older. It's our children that keep growing taller and older!
From December 19:
Last night we decorated our tree. Yes, it's a bit late but the actual tree has been in the house for a week or so. Todds been so busy with work we haven't had a chance, the three of us, to get the decorations out and hang the magic upon the trees branches. So last night, our first night together all week that didn't involve someone going somewhere or having to go to bed early, etc. was our night.Todd brought a two liter bottle into the livingroom and was aiming for the tree. Little miss inquisitor asked "what's that for daddy?". Here's how the conversation followed:Daddy: Well, trees need to drink, too.(sound of the two liter emptying into the tree stand-chug chug chug chug)Gabby: HOW IS IT DOING THAT?! (eyes wide) Daddy: I'm pouring it in.Mommy: He's putting it into the stand.Gabby: No, how is it doing THAT?! (eyes still quite large)Mommy: Like how you water Mrs. Brauns plant and mommy waters her plants-what do you mean how's it doing that?Gabby: (visible sigh) Oh. Ok.Mommy: (starts laughing) Gabby, did you think the tree was DRINKING the water?Gabby: Yeah! (eyes clearly full of relief that tree was not in fact drinking the water but that there's a stand undearneath that HOLDS the water)

I asked Gabby to remind me what we did in December and she said "we played in the snow!". She did alot more of that than I did. Contrary to the belief of my friends and family, I dislike the winter. I don't mind the snow, because Todd gets OT when it comes but truth be told, I'd rather have spring all year. I'd rather live somewhere warmer and greener. Not to say I don't enjoy the snow when we do play in it. I love to sled with Gabby and Todd and make snowmen. Todd and I use to go snowmobiling but our sleds haven't been run in a few years. Todd is always so busy with work this time of year it makes it hard to keep them maintained and running. I'm sad to say our kiddo has yet to be on a snowmobile and possibly one will run this year, we'll have to wait and see. While it may feel like winter has been here forever, in reality it's only January and we still have a ways to go.
Todds birthday is coming up. Gabby and I are getting him...oh wait, I can't tell. He may read this. ;) I look at him and though he's turning another year older, to me he's still 24. He doesn't age in my mind or my heart. I wonder if to him I'll forever be 18? Isn't it something how time flies and yet, sometimes, we feel as if we are standing still. Then we look and it's as if we've only blinked and everything is changed, grown and different. *sigh*
So, in a pretty box wrapped with a pretty bow that' our December. Of course more happened, we celebrated Christmas and our New Years eve was very quiet. We had a birthday or two in our family, we sent our cards out very, very late and we relaxed over vacation.
Here's to a wonderful New Year!
